Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American TV reporter, journalist and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began as a radio and TV reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington she was made general correspondent by NBC News two year later. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the chief congressional journalist. She was named Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs reporter in 1994 for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was a panelist and presenter of the TV program Meet the Press. She was part of a panel discussion at the 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors in journalism, among them the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell began covering in the White House in 1981-1988, both during Ronald Reagan's presidency. The reporting she did included plenty of significant stories, including the Iran-Contra controversy, budget and tax reform in addition to the issue of arms control. Mitchell traveled extensively along with President Reagan during summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
